Lula receives first application for license to serve beer and wine

LULA — Lula restaurant At the Tracks has become the first in the city to apply for a license to serve beer and wine.

City Manager Dennis Bergin informed the city council of the application at Monday night's work session.

The eatery, located on Main Street beside Lula Veterans Park, opened last fall and currently is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. six days a week. Its owners are the first to apply for a license since voters approved sales of alcohol by the drink.

“First ever – I guess that’s historic in some aspects, but the truth of the matter is they have a policy through procedure now that they have to follow,” Bergin said after the meeting. “We’ll make sure the licensing request and application is satisfied.

“We’ll actually begin to publish the request and take what comments, if any, come with reference to the direct application, but if they qualify based on the council’s input up to this point they very may well be in business with beer and wine within, I’d say, the next 30 to 45 days,” Bergin said.

The city council approved an alcohol by the drink ordinance earlier this year after voters approved the measure on the November ballot.
