Former faculty member to be remembered with GMS musical performance

The Gainesville Middle School band will honor a former Gainesville City School System faculty member and a Gainesville Middle and High band member who died last spring in a car accident.
 
The memory of Katie Poff will be honored with the new musical piece "Splendid Forevers" composed by William Owens. The tribute piece is dedicated to her family and friends.
 
The GMS Band commissioned Owens, one of the most published composers of middle school band music in the U.S., to create the piece.
 
Owens will travel to Gainesville to conduct the eighth grade band for the world premiere of the soon to be published musical composition at the GMS Band Spring Concert on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church. The community is invited to attend.
