Officials in Athens-Clarke County have released details of the weekend wreck that seriously injured Banks County basketball standout Kahmal Jerard Wiley, 17.
Officers from Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to the single-vehicle crash on Newton Bridge Road about 3 a.m. Saturday.
“A 2002 Lexus ES300 driven by Wiley was traveling south on Newton Bridge Road, where he lost control of his vehicle,” Public Information Officer Epifanio Rodriguez said via email. “The vehicle struck a tree. The car was split completely in half. Roadway evidence shows the speed Mr. Wiley was driving was in excess of 100 mph.”
Rodriguez said impairment is not suspected.
As reported elsewhere on AccessWDUN, Wiley was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment.
