Lady Lions lacrosse drops season-finale to Sewanee

SEWANEE — The Piedmont College women's lacrosse team hit the road for their final regular season game of 2017 where they fell in the second half to the Tigers of Sewanee 18-11.

The Lady Lions came out strong in the opening half battling with the 11-3 Tigers for the opening ten minutes pushing the score to 3-3 with just under twenty minutes to play. Back-to-back goals from KAYLA JONES both assisted by CAITLIN O'BRIEN gave PC the momentum for the following ten minutes. Sewanee would score just once more to Piedmont's two added on in the opening half giving PC the halftime advantage at 5-4.

Throughout the second half Sewanee excelled offensively scoring 14 goals before the final horn to the Lady Lions' six. The Tigers came out shooting in the second half beating out PC 17 shots to 7 aiding in the second half comeback. 

Turning Point
--A five-goal run by the Tigers gave them the momentum to hold off Piedmont for the remainder of the game. 

Standout Performances
--The Lady Lions had two hat tricks in the contest by way of ROWAN BUMPASS and KAYLA JONES each netting three goals.
--Mary Kate Myers of the Tigers was the leading scorer of the game with five goals to her credit.

Inside the Box Score
--PC won the draw control stat taking it 18-13 but the 30 turnovers would prove too many for the Lady Lions.

News & Notes
--The three goal performance by Bumpass puts her just two goals away from making the list of single season scoring record for PC.

Up Next
--The USA South Tournament is scheduled for April 14-15 in LaGrange, Georgia with Piedmont taking on Methodist in the semifinals.
