State Dept. of Corrections plans job fair in Gainesville

Ever thought you might like to be a prison guard?  Well, the state Department of Corrections has openings at the state prisons in Alto and Buford and will be looking for prospective employees later this month at a job fair at the East Hall Community Center.

"We are looking to hire candidates interested in becoming a Correctional Officer with Lee Arrendale State Prison (in Alto) or Phillips State Prison (in Buford)," according to a Department of Corrections press release.  "Applicants will interview, complete a physical training test, take the Accuplacer test, complete a physical examination, and if eligible, receive a hiring package the (same day)."

The job fair will be April 11, 9:00-4:00.  The East Hall Community Center is located at 3911 P. Davison Road in Gainesville.

Attendees should bring copies of the following items:

*Completed State of Georgia Application – available online at www.GDCJobs.com (blank copies will be available on site)

*Valid Driver’s License

*Birth Certificate

*Social Security Card

*High School Diploma/GED transcript

*SAT/ACT/Compass/Asset/Accuplacer scores

If POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) certified, a copy of his or her POST profile

Starting pay is $31,040 with a ten percent increase after one year of employment.
