Football: East Jackson names former Cedar Shoals coach Wilkins to replace Hunnicutt

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

COMMERCE — Scott Wilkins was named Tuesday as the new East Jackson head football coach.

Wilkins was the offensive coordinator for the Eagles in 2016. He was part of a staff led by Christian Hunnicutt that helped the Eagles turn around a program that had won just three games in a four-year period. East Jackson finished 4-6 in 2016 in Hunnicutt's only season at the helm. Hunnicutt left last month to take the same position at Grayson, which won the Class AAAAAAA state title in December.

Wilkins was a successful coach for Cedar Shoals for 16 seasons over two different stretches. He led the Jaguars from 1994-2007 and from 2014-15 before joining the Eagles staff last season. He led them to nine state playoff appearances in that time.

In his 16 seasons at the Athens school Wilkins complied a record of 108-68-1 (0.613) and led the Jaguars to the 1995 Class AAA state championship game where they lost 13-6 to Josey.
