Suwanee city council members gave their approval Tuesday night to a pair of developments that would bring a senior living center and a townhome development to the city.
Kinada Captial, LLC is planning to build an 86-unit, 65,000-square-foot senior living and memory care facility on a 6.6-acre tract of land at the intersection of Buford Highway and McGinnis Ferry Road.
Access to the facility would come via McGinnis Ferry Road (right in, right out only) and Burnette Road; city officials said traffic should not be much of an issue, since most residents will not be driving. An on-site shuttle will be provided.
Council also gave its approval to a townhome development on Northolt Parkway, which connects McGinnis Ferry and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.
Developers will build 67 townhomes on 11 acres of land, essentially across the street from the Terraces at Suwanee Gateway apartment complex.
Tuesday night's approval ended what turned into a lengthy application process.
"The applicant had run into some engineering challenges that they were trying to solve," said Marty Allen, city manager.
The final vote on the townhome project was postponed several times as developers dealt with those issues and the subsequent tweaks that had to be made to their plans.
