UNG's Smith honored by Peach Belt for second time

University of North Georgia freshman right hander Kylee Smith has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It is the second-time Smith has earned the honor in her first season in Dahlonega.

Smith went 3-0 on the week in the circle for the No. 4 Nighthawks, including a complete game two-hit shutout of Spring Hill, marking the first time the Badgers had been shutout this season. The freshman went the distance again on Sunday picking up the win against No. 8 Saint Leo allowing just five hits without surrendering an earned run. She also earned her first career save, coming in to close the door in Saturday's win over Eckerd. Smith leads the PBC in wins (11) and strikeouts (91), and sports the second-best ERA in the league (0.92).

North Georgia is set to return to the diamond on Wednesday, hosting the Lee Flames with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m., at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.
