The Jackson County Community Outreach (JCCO) announced recently that the group will award 17 scholarships totaling $21,500 to graduating seniors of the county's four high schools and the Jackson County Adult Learning Center in 2017.
Twelve scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1000 scholarships, while there will be one $1500 Tom Lewis Leadership scholarship and four $2000 Tech College Industrial Scholarships awarded to students. The Tech College Scholarships require the recipient to pursue a two-year degree or a diploma, normally 18 month in one of the 10 JCCO designated skill sets listed in the criteria and posted on the application.
The JCCO scholarship application is available at the JCCO website. All applicants must have a school counselor or principal sign off on the application and a college acceptance letter before an award distribution is made to the college.
The JCCO Scholarship Committee Chair Elaine Roller and Assistant Chair Mary Burley have established the deadline for application submission as February 24, 2017. The JCCO citizen interview team will be Carlie Jo Smith - Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Brenda Walker - Wayne Farms Purchasing Manager, Mike Sebring - Elringklinger USA, HR Manager and Mary Burley. "Interview sessions will be held at the JEMC-Jefferson building on March 28 and 30 and each qualified student applicant will be interviewed and after the selection process has been finalized, awards will be presented at each school's Honors Day Event," said JCCO President Jim Scott in a press statement.
The JCCO's Annual Achievement Awards Banquets are the primary fundraising mode to fund the JCCO Scholarship Fund for each succeeding year, and the JCCO Endowment Fund supports the Tech College Industrial Scholarship category.
