JACKSON, Miss. — Thanks to six runs over the final two innings, the Piedmont College baseball team managed a comeback after trailing 8-3 to win 9-8 over Millsaps on the road. The Lions trailed 8-3 heading into the eighth inning and scored four in the eighth and two in the ninth to seal a victory.

Piedmont got the scoring started early as Brady Ballstadt doubled to leadoff in the game and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Burden, but Millsaps answered in the bottom of the frame and took a 2-1 lead. Millsaps would add another run in the bottom of the third to stretch the lead to 3-1 after Cavan Breland tripled and scored on a sacrifice.

Collin Grant singled in the fourth inning and scored on a Justin Groover double cutting the lead to 3-2 in the fourth while Ballstadt homered to lead off the top of the fifth to make it an even game tied at three.

The Majors scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to lead it 8-3 after six complete, but the Lions continued to fight. Piedmont put up four runs on a single hit in the top of the eighth and again added a pair of runs in the top of the ninth. Griffin Olson singled to start the inning followed by Burden hitting a double to put runners on second and third.

Olson scored on an Evan Meade groundout with the winning run scoring on a Grant single as Burden crossed home. A leadoff single for the Majors in the bottom of the ninth gave them a threat, but Buddy Green retired the next three batters to seal the win.

Piedmont relief pitching staff did not allow an earned run with Green earning the win, his first of the season, pitching the final two innings giving up just one hit and striking out four.
