18 candidates qualify for special election to fill 6th District congressional post

The Georgia Secretary of State's Office said 18 candidates have officially qualified for the April 18 Special Election for the sixth congressional district - 11 Republicans, five Democrats and two Independents. 

Qualifying ended at 1 p.m. Wednesday to fill the seat following the confirmation of Tom Price as the new Health and Human Services Secretary in Washington, D.C.

The Republican candidates who filed qualifying papers are:

  • David Abroms
  • Mohammad Ali Bhuiyan
  • Keith Grawert
  • Bob Gray
  • Karen Handel
  • Judson Hill
  • Amy Kremer
  • Bruce LeVell
  • William Llop
  • Dan Moody
  • Kurt Wilson

The Democrats running for the post are:

  • Ragin Edwards
  • Richard Keatley
  • Jon Ossoff
  • Rebecca Quigg
  • Ron Slotin 

Those qualifying as Independents are:

  • Alexander Hernandez
  • Andre Pollard

The sixth congressional district covers parts of Cobb, DeKalb, and Fulton counties. 

Advance in-person voting will begin on Monday, March 27, according to Secretary of State Brian Kemp. On Election Day, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. A run-off election, if needed, will be held on June 20.
