Clermont woman charged with DUI, other offenses in early morning crash on Clarks Bridge Road

By B.J. Williams

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Clarks Bridge Road in north Hall County during the Monday morning rush hour.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Kraeling said the wreck happened just after 7:45 a.m.

"A black Toyota Camry was headed southbound on Clarks Bridge Road/GA 284 just south of Ed Henson Road," Kraeling said. "The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a white Chevrolet Silverado head-on. They hit...head light to head light."

The force of the impact caused the Camry to overturn into a ditch.

Kraeling said the at-fault driver, 45-year-old Diane Sheffield of Clermont, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with a cut to her head. He said she also was complaining of chest pains. Kraeling said the driver of the pick-up truck suffered minor injuries, while his two passengers were uninjured.

The truck belonged to Lawson Air Conditioning, and company president Debbie Lawson Davis said a number of customers called the business worried about the employees in the truck.

"We are thankful that our three employees who were hit in this morning's serious accident received only minor injuries. This reminds us of the importance of seatbelt use," Davis said.

Trooper Kraeling said Sheffield faces a number of charges in connection with the crash.

"She was charged with a DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving on a suspended license and running a stop sign," Kraeling said.

Clarks Bridge Road was closed for more than an hour while the accident was cleared.
