Report: Hundreds show up for Atlanta rally in support of Muslims, refugees

By The Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) — Organizers of a rally in support of Muslims and refugees Saturday in Atlanta say more than 2,500 people showed up.

Saturday's event was held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Organizers say it drew more than 1,500 online RSVPs.

WXIA-TV (http://on.11alive.com/2jLL8rL ) reports the rally was entitled "Atlanta Stands with Muslims and Refugees." Participants carried signs and chanted "Say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcome here!"

U.S. District Senior Judge James Robart of Seattle issued a nationwide restraining order Friday blocking the travel ban put in place by President Donald Trump last week. The ban, created through an executive order, sought to block people from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer says the Department of Justice will seek an emergency stay.
