Piedmont College receives accreditation renewal

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has reaffirmed its accreditation of Piedmont College for an additional 10 years.

Piedmont was first accredited by the agency in 1965 and has maintained its standing following periodic 10-year reviews since then, according to the school's president, James F. Mellichamp.

“Accreditation review is a very important process, because it gives us and the reviewing agency a chance to examine every aspect of the college, from academic programs to finances,” Mellichamp said. “I want to congratulate all of our faculty and staff—and students—who were involved in this comprehensive audit of our operations.”

Mellichamp said students were particularly involved in helping to create a new Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), which SACSCOC requires as part of each institution’s accreditation renewal. Piedmont’s QEP focuses on “High-Impact Practices,” courses and activities that encourage students to go beyond typical classroom study to conduct undergraduate research; become leaders within the school and community; and to engage in global learning, especially through travel-study opportunities available through the college.
