Boys basketball: Lakeview, Chestatee, Jefferson, Branch each win; Banks suffers first loss

GAINESVILLE — Lakeview Academy ran its win streak to three straight with a stunning 60-53 win over East Jackson Thursday at the Lakeview gym.

The Lions (4-3) jumped out to a big 35-18 halftime lead and held on in the second half.

Drew Cottrell poured in 17 points to lead Lakeview. Blake McIntyre added 13 points and Alec Bornhorst just missed on a double-double with 9 points and 15 rebounds. Arturo Varela had 8 points and Jack Blackburn dished out 6 assists for the Lions.

East Jackson (10-2) came in leading Class AAA in wins and had its four-game win streak snapped with the loss.

Lakeview will take a week off before taking on Chestatee at 1:30 p.m. next Thursday in the opening round of the Lanierland Tournament.

East Jackson next will take on Whitmer (Toledo, OH) Dec. 27 in Rock Holiday Classic in Orlando Fla.


CHESTATEE BOYS 83,
JACKSON COUNTY 66

Chestatee posted a season-high 23 assists in taking a dominating win over the Panthers Thursday in the Storm Classic at Providence Christian Academy.

Cameron Gwyn poured in 24 points to lead the War Eagles (4-7). Nick Lyles added 13 points and Donovan Hernandez 10 as Chestatee has won two of its last three games overall.

It was the sixth straight loss for Jackson County (2-8). The Panthers were led by Kalib Clinton with 27 points.


JEFFERSON BOYS 64,
WEST HALL 38

Jefferson used a 12-4 first quarter to grab the lead and then cruised to the road win at the West Hall gym.

It was the fift straight win for Jefferson (7-5) while West Hall fell to 5-7 with its third straight loss.

The Dragons took a 30-14 into halftime and then extended the lead to 48-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

Jacob Radaker led Jefferson with 22 points.

Noah Edmondson paced West Hall with 11 points. Dee Buffington added 10 points and Braden Martin 9 points for the Spartans.


FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 60,
BARREN COUNTY 51

The Falcons notched a victory in the Smoky Mountain Classic tournament on Thursday in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Justin Quick led the Branch with 16 points, while Lutumba Patsheko added 14 points. Janess Myles also scored 10.

BANKS COUNTY 65

The Class AAAAAA Wildcats handed the Class AA Leopards their first loss of the season on Thursday night.

Carl Cleveland scored 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds and added 3 assists in the loss for Banks, while Dylan Orr scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with 2 assists and 6 blocks. Darius Bonds also had 7 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and 1 block for the Leopards (9-1), while Noah Riley also scored 7.

Banks County will play host to North Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Homer.
