Bob Glidden, one of the most dominant forces in the history of NHRA Drag Racing, died on Sunday, December 17.
In a career that spanned more than 25 years in the Pro Stock class, Glidden won 85 events and 10 season championships and was voted No. 4 on the list of Top 50 racers from NHRA’s first 50 years in 2000.
Among the chapionships, Glidden won back-to-back titles in 1974 and 1975. He also scored three in a row from 1978 through 1990, and five straight from 1985 through 1989.
“Everyone in the NHRA community is saddened to learn the news of Bob’s passing,” said NHRA President Peter Clifford. “He was a true competitor who left a lasting legacy of excellence both on and off the track. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with the Glidden family at this difficult time.”
Glidden was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2001, he was ranked fourth in the NHRA’s Top 50 Drivers, 1951-2000. In 2005, Glidden was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Bob Glidden was 73.
