Crews begin pouring concrete at site of new 985 interchange

By AccessWDUN staff

Work crews have begun pouring concrete at the site of the long-planned interchange on I-985 in the Flowery Branch area.

State Department of Transportation spokeswoman Katie Strickland says a concrete pad that was poured a few days ago will be the support for a future wall that will be constructed for one of  the bridges.

There are three bridges planned at the site:  one across across HF Reed Road, connecting HF Reed and Martin Road; a southbound entrance ramp bridge; and a southbound exit ramp bridge.

Th support pad includes 150 steel piles driven into the ground, and 1,400 cubic yards yards of concrete, which is the equivalent of 160 truckloads.

This work took the crew 11 hours to complete.
