Vision 2030, an initiative that aims to improve Hall County in varying ways, has added a new committee to keep the projects going past the year 2030.
Melissa Tymchuk, chair of Vision 2030, spoke at the South Hall Business Coalition Tuesday morning about the different committees, like the new millennial committee.
"We formed our millennial committee to really harness to voice of this growing demographic to make sure that we are plugging millennials in throughout out community and we are listening to their voice, what they want to see Gainesville and Hall County look like in 2030," said Tymchuk. "When you think about the age they were when we went through our visioning sessions in 2005, many of them were not old enough to participate."
Tymchuk said it was important to keep that group engaged throughout the county. Jenny Early and Walt Booth are chairing the committee. Tymchuk said they conducted a survey earlier this year, targeting millennial members of the community for their opinion.
They are also finding ways to get millennials involved in the committees already in motion, like the public art initiative or the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue, which will host the Dragon Boat World Championships in 2018.
"Many of our committees have very visual output," said Tymchuk. "But there's so much work going on in other committees you may not see as much, visually, as you drive through Gainesville and Hall County, such as our health care committee, our education committee, our diversity committee, our transportation committee, lots of work happening in collaboration with our government partners and collaboration with our community groups. They all are equally important and equally doing great work, even if you don't see it."
Tymchuk said all of these projects go on simultaneously, thanks to their dedicated committee heads.
