Gainesville woman, child killed in Alabama wreck

A woman and child from Gainesville are dead and a man from Gainesville was injured after a single-vehicle crash in Alabama, near the Mississippi border, Wednesday afternoon.

A statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified the woman as Maria Arteaga, 56, and the injured man as Eduardo Arteaga, 61. The child was only identified as a 10 year old.

According to the agency, the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by Eduardo Arteaga, left the roadway and overturned on Interstate 59, near the 18 mile marker and approximately one mile north of Livingston. 

Troopers said neither the child nor Maria Arteaga were wearing seat belts.

Eduardo Arteaga was taken to Rush Hospital in Meridian, Miss. 

No further details were released as troopers continue to investigate the wreck.
