Forsyth County sets five public meetings for transportation plan

By B.J. Williams
In Forsyth County, government officials are working to complete an updated comprehensive transportation plan before the end of the year. First though, they need to get some final input from the public.

The comprehensive plan is a guiding document that outlines the long-range vision for transportation in the county. The updated plan is designed to focus on the transportation needs of people who live, work and visit the county and will result in projects to address vehicular, freight, bicycle and pedestrian needs, according to information released by county officials.

The Transportation Plan Update was initiated by a series of public open house sessions in April followed by an online community survey. Now, county officials want to unveil the draft plan and get further input from stakeholders on potential projects.

The second and final series of public open house sessions will take place at the following locations throughout the county:

Tuesday, November 14: 6 - 8 p.m. Forsyth Conference Center, Lanier Technical College 3410 Ronald Reagan Boulevard

Thursday, November 16: 6 - 8 p.m. Central Park Recreation Center, Banquet Room 2300 Keith Bridge Road

Tuesday, November 28: 6 - 8 p.m. Lambert High School, Cafeteria 805 Nichols Road

Thursday, November 30: 6 - 8 p.m. West Forsyth High School, Cafeteria 4155 Drew Road

Thursday, December 7: 6 - 8 p.m. Hampton Park Library, Meeting Room 5345 Settingdown Road

County officials say there will be no formal presentation and the same information will be displayed at each open house. Those who cannot attend the open house sessions will be able to view the display materials and provide input via the project website, forsythtransportationplan.com.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is expected to review and approve the plan in December 2017.
