First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Georgia were up slightly in September, compared to August, but were down in metro Gainesville.
The state Labor Department reports that statewide applications rose 3.6 percent.
In metro Gainesville, they decreased 30.3 percent. Atlanta and Athens also saw decreases of 15.9 percent and 18.4 percent, respectively.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler noted claims were also down when compared to a year ago. That is also true of Gainesville.
