BUFORD - One person was critically injured in a house fire in Buford Sunday morning.
The fire happened in the 2400-block of Luke Court near Dennis Place according to Gwinnett County fire officials. Neighbors reported the blaze in the split-level home at 11:34 a.m.
Fire department spokesperson Justin Wilson said responding crews found the home heavily involved in flames upon their arrival and a burn victim in the front yard.
"The burn patient is an adult male. That patient was transported emergency status to Grady Hospital in Atlanta and is currently in potential life-threatening condition," Wilson said.
Officials said that no other occupants were found inside the structure, but firefighters discovered three deceased dogs upon their entry. A fourth canine survived the fire and was reunited with a family member at the scene.
Neither the victim's name nor the cause of the fire were available. Wilson said an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and that damage estimates will be forthcoming.
