By AccessWDUN Staff

HOMER — Banks County played its way into contention for a home playoff berth on Friday night courtesy a 14-7 defeat of Putnam County in Homer.

The Leopards (5-4, 4-1 Region 8-AA) not only clinched a state spot for the second straight campaign -- something not achieved since the 1996-97 seasons -- but now have a shot at playing again in Homer after fending off the War Eagles.

Terrance Walker helped pace Banks County, rushing 31 times for 162 yards and both touchcowns, while quarterback Sawyer Pace went 8 of 15 for 118 yards through the air. Blake Segars also caught two passes for 40 yards in the win.

Banks County plays host to Elbert County next Friday for the No. 2 seed.
