By UNG Athletics Communications

CARROLLTON — Matt Elliott finished in a tie for second place as the University of North Georgia men's golf team finished in a tie for third at the Matt Dyas Invitational on Tuesday. Clayton State won the tournament by virtue of a scorecard tiebreak over Young Harris.

The Nighthawks (583) and Lee finished one stroke behind the Lakers and Mountain Lions (582), while Newberry (584) finished alone in fifth. UNG's two-round score is the second-best in program history.

The top seven teams in the tournament were separated by eight strokes.

Elliott shot a three-under-par 69 in the final round to finish with a 36-hole score of 141. The three-under 36-hole score puts him at fourth all-time in 36-hole events. He finished two strokes back of individual champion Samuel Jones of West Georgia.

The fall season for UNG has concluded. The next tournament for the Nighthawks will be February 12-13, 2018, at the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational at Sea Island, Georgia.
