BUFORD — Anthony Grant scored three touchdowns and the defense scored a pair of touchdowns as Buford shook off a slow start to rout Walnut Grove 49-0 Friday night in Region 8-AAAAA action at Tom Riden Stadium.
Grant scored on a 45-yard run in the first quarter and added another scoring run in the second quarter for a 14-0 halftime lead.
But the defense started and ended the second half in style for the Wolves (6-1, 4-0 Region 8-AAAAA). Senior A.J. Hendricks picked off a Warriors pass and returned it for a touchdown early in the third quarter. Derrian Brown ran in from 8-yards for a 28-0 lead midway through the third quarter.
Grant then added his third score of the game on 7-yard run out of the wildcat formation for a 35-0 advantage to end the third quarter. Buford made it 42-0 early in the fourth quarter when backup quarterback Will Westmoreland tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jaamal Singleton.
The Wolves defense capped off the impressive showing recovering a Walnut Grove fumble in the end zone for the final tally.
Buford travels to Loganville next week before heading to Flowery Branch in the season finale in two weeks in what is expected to be a battle for the region title. The Falcons are off next week.
