Man arrested for stealing $3,000 worth of equipment at Hall County parks facility

An Athens man is facing charges for allegedly stealing more than $3,000 worth of equipment from a Hall County Parks and Leisure storage facility.

Authorities were called to the scene on Barber Road Friday at 5:30 p.m. where a witness told deputies the suspect's description, vehicle description and tag number, said Deputy Stephen Wilbanks, Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Deputies spotted the vehicle on Candler Road, and tried to pull the suspect over, identified as Robert Wynn, 66. Wynn pulled onto Belmont Highway and ran into some nearby woods, said Wilbanks in an email.

Deputies found the missing lawn equipment inside the suspect's car, plus a backpack containing tools, a glove and a ski mask.

Wynn was booked into the Hall County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary, theft by taking, criminal trespass and obstruction of an officer, among others.

At last report, Wynn remained in jail.
