A look at news from and about area schools, universities and colleges:

*The Georgia National Fair celebrates the state’s heritage, people and agriculture each fall. This year, the 11-day event featured the work of Brenau University associate professor of art and design, Claudia Wilburn. Wilburn, who is also the studio art program director, won best in show and first place in the mixed media category at the fair’s 28th annual juried exhibition of fine arts. The event is held annually in Perry, and was this year themed “Family Traditions & Memories.”

*October is Dyslexia and ADHD awareness month. To help educate and inform the public about Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders, The Academy of Innovation will host a Panel of Professionals on October 26. at the Academy, located at 1399 Thompson Bridge Rd., Gainesville.  The event is free and childcare will be provided. *The Atlanta Business Chronicle has named Dr. Bonita Jacobs, president of the University of North Georgia, as one of its 2017 Women Who Mean Business. Jacobs joins a list of 19 other business women and industry experts. They will be profiled in the Oct. 20 issue of Atlanta Business Chronicle and recognized during a special awards ceremony Oct. 19.
