SOCIAL CIRCLE - Saturday marks the beginning of primitive deer hunting season in Georgia - better known as muzzleloading season.
For the week leading up to firearms season, hunters may use muzzleloaders to bag their trophy deer. In 2016, more that 42,000 hunters bagged more that 6,000 deer in Georgia during muzzleloader season, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Though primitive weapons hunters are allowed to hunt a week before firearms hunters, the bag limit remains the same. DNR says the season bag limit is two antlered deer, with one of the antlered deer having at least four points, one inch or longer, on one side of the antlers. Hunters also are limited to harvesting 10 antlerless deer, according to regulations.
