Drug agents with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team and the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) seized almost a pound of methamphetamine during a search of a mobile home in Lumpkin County Monday.
Lt. Chris Pfrogner with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office said agents had received a tip that prompted them to obtain a search warrant for the residence at Mountain View Campground at 15220 Hwy 129N.
When they arrived, Pfrogner said agents found the drugs, but the suspects in the case had left the residence.
"We had some members of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office and Georgia State Patrol providing surveillance on the residence and while the team that was executing the warrant was enroute, [the suspects] left the residence and were followed by a Georgia State Patrol officer," Pfrogner said.
Pfrogner said the trooper was able to pull the vehicle over at Linda's Convenience Store in White County.
Authorities arrested Buck Charles Granados, 46, and Laurie Morgan, 54, and charged both with trafficking methamphetamine in Lumpkin County.
"Also, Mr. Granados was wanted by the U.S. Marshals for a federal supervised release violation," Pfrogner said.
In addition to confiscating the drugs, which had a street value of $43,659, agents found $1,000 cash in Granados' possession.
Pfrogner said no one was injured during the incident.
