Gainesville officials want to develop downtown lots for residential, pedestrian friendly space

The City of Gainesville wants to develop four parcels of city-owned land as part of the Downtown Strategic Plan released last summer.

The parcels are commonly refered to as the Main Street and Greater South lots, within the boundaries of Main Street, Jesse Jewell Parkway, Broad Street and West Academy Street. The city has already issued a request for proposal (RFP) for purchase and development, according to a press release from the city.

City Manager Bryan Lackey said the goal was to put something that would benefit the community in the space.

“We are looking for a project that is residentially focused, pedestrian friendly, and will enhance our thriving downtown,” said Lackey in the release.

A pre-proposal meeting and site tour will be held Wednesday, February 8 at 2 p.m. Proposals will be due by 4:30 p.m. March 10 and an evaluation committee will review the documents the last week of March.
