Fire destroys Danny's Automotive in Lumpkin County

An automotive repair shop in Lumpkin County is considered a total loss following a fire Wednesday night.

Danny's Automotive off of Oak Grove Road near Dahlonega was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene, which was further complicated by the numerous amounts of flammable materials commonly found in an automotive shop.

"It was very tough. Any type of automotive shop, you know they've got gas and oil, and different things in there. Also, it was full of cars, too," said David Wimpy, Lumpkin County Fire Chief, in a phone interview.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which was reported by a neighbor who heard an explosion.

"Luckily there's a gas station right beside this shop, and we were able to keep all those exposures safe," said Wimpy.

At last report, investigators were on scene working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Wimpy did not immediately have a damage estimate cost for the business.
