The Gainesville City School Board held its first work session of 2017 Monday night, and board members elected new officers.
Brett Mercer will now be the Chairman of the school board, taking over the position held by Dr. Delores Diaz. John Filson was chosen to serve as Vice-chairman.
Willie Mitchell will continue in his role as Board Treasurer.
Board officers serve for one-year terms.
