NAACP, Blacks Lives Matter plan protests in Atlanta, Athens

By AccessWDUN Staff

In response to this week's deadly police-involved shootings in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Charlotte, NC, community activists are planning demonstrations Friday night in Atlanta and Athens and Saturday in Atlanta.

The Georgia NAACP announced on Twitter a 6 p.m. rally Friday at Ivan Allen Boulevard in Atlanta. In addition, the NAACP chapter in Athens-Clarke County has announced a 7 p.m. vigil at the University of Georgia Arch, according a published report in the Athens Banner Herald.

On Saturday, Black Lives Matter will hold silent protests at two Atlanta MARTA stations. Flyers for the group say the first protest will be held from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lenox MARTA station; the second is scheduled for 7 p.m. to midnight at the Peachtree Center MARTA station in downtown Atlanta. The flyers ask for demonstrators to wear all black.

The demonstrations are being held in honor of Terence Crutcher and Keith Lamont Scott, according to press information from the groups.
