OCALA, Fla. - Danny Martin, Jr. took the lead on lap nine and never looked back to win the USCS Sprint Car Series weekend opener Friday night at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Florida.
It was the Sarasota, Florida driver’s fourth series victory of the season.
Martin started on the outside of row one for the start of the race, and fell back to the third spot. Martin began moving back up on lap eight when he passed early race leader Tyler Clem for the second spot, and then got around veteran racer Johnny Gilbertson for the lead on lap nine.
Gilbertson led laps four through eight and finished second, while Clem finished in third place after leading the first three laps of the race. Nick Snyder finished in the fourth spot, with Shawn Murray in fifth.
Series points leader Morgan Turpen, Terry Gray, Terry Witherspoon, Johnny Petrozelle and Danny Sams III rounded out the top ten.
In preliminary action, Gray won the six-lap Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, while Clem and Gilbertson scored heat race victories.
In the Florida Mini Sprint Action (FMSA) series vs. the USCS 600 Sprint Car Series winged mini sprint showdown, John Craddock took a wire-to-wire win in the 20-lap feature race. Robbie Smith finished second, with Russ Heider in third, Remeno Loyal of Snellville, Georgia in fourth and Kenny Brewer in fifth.
