HOMER -- There were three lead changes and four ties, but Bo Lynch’s 28-yard touchdown run early in the fourth broke a 28-28 and propelled Union County to a 42-28 win over Banks County Friday night.
Banks County led 7-0 on a Griffin Goodwin touchdown pass but Union County got touchdown runs from Lynch and Cole Wright to take a 14-7 lead.
The Leopards tied it at 14 on a touchdown run and the Panthers again claimed the lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Nic Rodriguez midway through the second quarter.
The Leopards rallied to tie the game on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Goodwin. Banks County converted on 3rd-and-8, 4th-and-8, and 4th-and-11 on the drive.
Wright scored on an 11-yard run with 7:59 left in the third quarter to retake the lead again for the Panthers at 28-21. Banks County again tied it on a 1-yard scoring run but Lynch scored his third touchdown of the game to give Union County the lead for good and Wright put it out of reach with a 26-yard scoring with 7:01 left for a 42-28 lead.
The Panthers offense wasn’t the only unit that contributed. RJ Banton and Kanon Hemphill each had second half interceptions for Unuin County to stop Banks County drives.
Wright finished with 198 yards rushing for Union County while Lynch added 176 yards for the Panthers.
