Officials with Food Lion confirmed Monday morning that the company's grocery store on South Enota Drive in Gainesville will close, "on or before September, 20."
The store anchors the Sherwood Plaza strip development in the area. The closest remaining Food Lion store in the area is in Dawson County.
"We appreciate the support of our dedicated associates and loyal customers in the Gainesville area, and we look forward to continue serving our customers at our nearby store located at 59 Main St., Suite 100 in Dawsonville," Kristyn Callaway, a media and community relations specialist for the company wrote in an email Monday.
"Food Lion made the difficult decision to close the store as a result of the lease ending at this location," Callaway added. "We have about 27 associates at this location, and we are working to provide associates positions at nearby stores."
September 20 is a Tuesday.
