GAINESVILLE — Commerce used a big first quarter to jump out to 21-0 lead and then cruised to a 42-7 win over Lakeview Academy in Region 8-A action Friday night.
The Tigers (3-0, 2-0 Region 8-A) got three touchdown runs from Will Thomas, one touchdown run and one touchdown reception from Cole Chancey, and one touchdown pass from Lane Sorrow. Thomas scored on runs of 77, 2, and 68 yards. Chancey scored on an 8-yard run and a 44-yard pass from Sorrow.
Commerce extended its lead to 35-0 by halftime and led 42-0 going into the fourth quarter. The Tigers piled up 400 yards of offense for the game.
Lakeview Academy (0-3, 0-2) got its only score on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Alec Bornhorst to Jerrod Abee in the fourth quarter.
It was Commerce’s 900th high school football game as a program going back to 1909.
