North Georgia communities commemorate the 15th anniversary of 9-11

This Sunday, September 11, 2016 marks the 15th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed some 3,000 Americans on U.S. soil. The following communities in our region are commemorating the day with special events. 

5-Alarm 5K Run/Walk in downtown Lawrenceville

  • Where: The Lawrenceville Lawn just off the square in downtown Lawrenceville
  • What: A 5K Run/Walk that is a pre-qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race
  • When: Saturday, September 10 at 8 a.m.
  • Who: Gwinnett Fire Employees' Benevolent Fund
  • Why: To support local firefighters and their families during times of need

City of Suwanee 15th Anniversary of Tragedy with Remembrance Ceremony

  • Where: Suwanee @ Remembrance public art piece, located on the east side of Town Center Park near Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road
  • What: Remembrance Day ceremony on 9/11 attack
  • When: Sunday, September 11 at 3 p.m. (will be brief)
  • Why: To honor our heroes and reflect on the significance of what this day means to the community

  • Where: Winder @ Winder Fire Dept. (90 North Broad Street)
  • What: 9/11 memorial service
  • When: Sunday, September 11 at 8:30 a.m.

Gwinnett Tribute to the Heroes of 9/11

  • Where: Duluth @ Infinite Energy Center (6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, 30097)
  • What: Gwinnett Symphony commemorates fallen first responders
  • When: Sunday, September 11 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Cost: Concert-$15.00 Concert and GALA-$50.00

Gwinnett County Dept. of Fire and Emergency 9/11 Memorial

  • Where: 75 Langley Dr. in Lawrenceville @ Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center
  • What: 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
  • When: Sunday, September 11 at 9 a.m.
  • Who: Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services

Motorcycle Remembrance Ride

  • Where: 4225 Atlanta Highway in Bogart @ Cycle World of Athens
  • What: Motorcycle ride in remembrance of those who lost their lives on and after 9/11 and to honor military and public safety personnel serving today. The ride starts in Bogart and ends in Blairsville in the North Georgia mountains
  • When: Sunday, September 11 at 9 a.m.
