ATHENS — Several publications are reporting that Georgia coach Kirby Smart will be naming freshman Jacob Eason as the starter at quarterback Saturday when the Bulldogs take on Nicholls State at Sanford Stadium.
Onlineathens.com and DawgNation both reported Thursday that people close to the situation confirmed that Eason will become the first true freshman to start at quarterback since Matthew Stafford in 2006.
Eason threw his first collegiate touchdown pass in a 33-24 win over North Carolina last week in limited duty as the backup to senior Greyson Lambert, who started against the Tar Heels.
Eason went 8-for-12 for 131 yards passing against North Carolina. His signature play was a perfectly thrown 51-yard bomb to Isaiah McKenzie to set up Georgia's eventual go-ahead field goal.
