Stolen Pepsi vehicle recovered in Habersham after chase

An Atlanta man faces numerous charges after leading officers in Habersham County on a chase early Saturday in a vehicle stolen in the Metro Atlanta area.

At 6:43 a.m. Saturday, Habersham County Dispatch notified law enforcement personnel to be on the lookout for a white Chevrolet pickup truck with Pepsi written on it. The truck was traveling northbound on Ga. 365, according to Lt. Matt Wurtz of the Habersham County Sheriff's Office.

"According to the BOLO, Gwinnett County Police Department officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and it continued north and the driver had thrown what appeared to be narcotics from the window," Wurtz said.

Habersham deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck on Ga. 365 in the area of Hayes Automotive in Baldwin, but the vehicle fled.

As officers pursued the truck, it reached speeds in excess of 90 mph. Georgia State Patrol joined the pursuit in the area of Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway and was able to conduct the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) on the vehicle just south of Cody Road on Ga. 365, Wurtz said. There was only minimal damage to both vehicles and no one was hurt.

Jeimere Haney of Atlanta was arrested and charged in Habersham County with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, driving under the influence, theft by receiving stolen property and driving without a license, Wurtz said.

The truck was confirmed by Atlanta Police Department as stolen from the Pepsi fleet facility in Atlanta.

Charges also may be pending from Atlanta Police Department, DeKalb County and Gwinnett County for charges related to the incident, Wurtz said.

Haney was booked into the Habersham County Detention Center.
