ATHENS — Another hot day greeted the Georgia Bulldogs at the team’s 16th practice of fall camp on Wednesday.
Following a two-hour workout at the Club Sports Complex on Milledge Avenue, members of the Bulldogs’ offensive unit spoke with media. One of those players was junior tailback Nick Chubb, who said fall camp has given him an opportunity to improve each day.
“Every day you can get a little better somewhere,” Chubb said. “For me personally, it has been just finally getting back in the groove, getting tackled, lowering my pads, getting my speed back and things like that.”
The 2014 SEC Freshman of the Year, who rushed for 747 yards before a season-ending knee injury against Tennessee last season, continues to make progress before the 2016 opener against North Carolina at the Georgia Dome on Sept. 3. Part of Chubb’s success throughout his career can be contributed to players like senior offensive guard Greg Pyke, who has embraced his role as a leader for the Bulldogs’ offensive line.
“I think guys like Isaiah Wynn, Brandon Kublanow, Tyler Catalina and myself are just trying to take those guys under our wings and tell them, ‘hey, it’s going to be alright’,” Pyke said following Wednesday’s workout. “We just want to make sure they practice really hard and understand what Coach (Sam) Pittman is telling them, whether it be technique wise, learning new calls or watching extra film.”
Georgia and North Carolina kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 3. The Bulldogs' home opener is Saturday, Sept. 10, against Nicholls with kickoff slated for Noon. Tickets are $50 each and can be ordered online through GeorgiaDogs.com or by calling 1-877-542-1231 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
