Police are following leads following the severe beating of a man Wednesday afternoon under the Queen City Bridge in Gainesville.
The incident happened between 2:55 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the hospital notified officers.
"It's not believed that he (victim) lived there (under the bridge). It's believed that he was possibly dropped off at that location by a friend or family," Holbrook said.
A homeless camp is located under the bridge.
Investigators believe a friend or family member then took him to the hospital following the incident. The victim is Daniel Andrew Smith, 33, according to the Gainesville Police Department's daily bulletin.
"It appears that he was beaten severely and with unknown objects. He did have severe head trauma, and at this time is still in critical condition," Holbrook said.
Because of his condition, officers have been unable to speak to Smith about the incident.
Holbrook asked that anyone with information on the case contact the department.
