Nearly 200 people are expected to participate in this year's "Walk to End Alzheimer's" in Gainesville Oct. 15. The three-mile walk is part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer's disease.
Participants will learn about Alzheimer's disease and how to get involved to fight it — from advocacy opportunities to clinical studies enrollment to the Alzheimer's Association's many support programs and services, according to a news release announcing plans for the event. Walk participants also will place different colored forget-me-not flowers in the Promise Garden at the walk's conclusion to honor those with Alzheimer's, those lost to the disease, caregivers and more.
Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is billed as the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Georgia will hold 18 walks state-wide this year.
