Gainesville planning board to hear request involving plans for business expansion

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board is scheduled to hear a request Tuesday involving a planned expansion to an Atlanta Highway supermarket/restaurant building.

According to the board's agenda, the applicant, Lucio Hernandez, is proposing to vary the side yard setback from 35 feet to 2.7 feet.  The property now houses Yuriria Supermarket and the El Ranchito Restaurant.

Plans call for the demolition of the rear 39-foot x 75-foot portion of the existing building and replacing it with a 39-foot x 111-foot addition.  The addition will be 36 feet in length beyond the original building footprint extending toward Memorial Park Drive.

The city planning staff is recommending approval of the request, conditioned upon Hernandez planting a vegetated buffer between his property and an adjacent residential neighborhood.
