Suwanee Police Department seeks public comment for accreditation assessment

A team of assessors will visit Suwanee on Monday to examine the Suwanee Police Department.
 
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will look at the department's policy and procedures, management, operations and support services, according to a press release.
 
As part of the examination, CALEA is looking for public comment on the department. A public information session will be held Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at city hall.
 
Residents can also give comments via phone at (770) 904-7655 on Tuesday between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
 
Each public comment will be limited to 10 minutes.
 
 Verification by the team that the Suwanee Police Department meets the Commission s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation  a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence, said Mike Jones, police chief.
 
To gain accreditation, Suwanee Police must attain approximately 418 standards.
 
Accreditation lasts for three years.
