Hall County woman charged with exploiting elderly relative

A Hall County woman faces charges for allegedly stealing $6,600 from an elderly relative through the use of unauthorized checks and financial transactions.

Cynthia Velvet Clark, 52, was arrested Thursday for the crimes, which took place between January 2015 and May 2016, according to Hall County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ware.

"Someone in the victim's family — on behalf of the victim — discovered that there were numerous overdrafts and things of that nature. (That person) went to the bank and learned that many of those transactions occurred without the authority of the victim," said Ware in a phone interview.

At that point, the sheriff's office began its investigation, leading to Clark's arrest.

Ware said Clark has a history of misdemeanor account fraud charges back in the early 1990s, which he said likely stemmed from bounced checks.

Clark was booked into the Hall County Jail without incident, said Ware.
