ATHENS — University of Georgia freshman defensive back Chad Clay has been dismissed from the Bulldog football team according to UGA head coach Kirby Smart.
“Unfortunately, Chad will no longer be a part of our football program” said Smart. “It is very disappointing, and we wish him the best in his efforts to continue his education.”
Clay was arrested on Wednesday for a misdemeanor charge of theft by taking, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail web site. It was the former Peachtree Ridge standout's second arrest since enrolling in Athens this spring after being charged with having a BB gun on school grounds and property damage.
