CLARKESVILLE — Clarkesville police again are seeking the public's help, this time with locating a man they have identified as a suspect in a June 16 armed robbery attempt outside a bank in the city.
On Monday, Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett identified that man as Kevin Michael Conley Jr., 23, formerly of Clarkesville.
An arrest warrant has been obtained for Conley in connection with last week's incident, which occurred around 1 a.m. at the night depository at United Community Bank on West Louise Street in Clarkesville.
At that time, a man whose face was covered by a bandana and Aviator-style sunglasses approached the passenger side of a vehicle occupied by two people preparing to make a deposit for a business in the city and brandished what appeared to be a handgun, Barrett said.
The driver of the vehicle quickly accelerated, but the man grabbed onto the vehicle and held on for some 900 feet before becoming dislodged in the area of El Jinete, Barrett said.
The man was not able to get the deposit, and has eluded authorities since the incident.
Officials believe Conley still is in Northeast Georgia, possibly in Madison County.
Anyone with information about Conley's whereabouts is asked to call Habersham Dispatch at (706) 778-3911 and ask to speak to a Clarkesville officer regarding the case.
