Buford church sign denouncing gay, transgender people vandalized

A church sign at Back to the Bible Holiness Church in Buford, which at the time contained a message denouncing gay and transgender people, was vandalized sometime Sunday night or Monday morning.

The sign, according to Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Michele Pihera, read "God created man and woman. Satan made gays and transgender. Gen. 5:2" and had been posted for about three weeks.

The verse, Genesis Chapter 5, Verse 2, reads: "(God) created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created."

Black paint was used to cover the text on the sign, which is located on New Street, west of Buford Highway; a damage estimate given by Pihera in a phone interview came to $5,000.

"There are no listed suspects in the report, so we're asking anybody with information to share about this crime or anybody who knows who's responsible to please contact the Gwinnett County Police Department," said Pihera.

The vandalism occurred sometime between 6:00 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday.
