CLARKESVILLE — A Clarkesville man has been booked into the Habersham County Detention Center on child exploitation-related charges following the execution of a search warrant at his home Wednesday morning.
"We executed a search warrant this morning at the residence of David Newcomer, 75," of Clarkesville, said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Brian Johnston of the GBI Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit. "We had been working a child pornography investigation based on a cyber tip that was given to us by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children."
As a result of the investigation, Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents located images of child pornography on electronic devices belonging to Newcomer, Johnston said.
Newcomer is charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, Johnston said.
The GBI Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit is the host agency for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which has more than 200 affiliates throughout Georgia.
"Routinely we get these cyber tips from the National Center, and we work real closely with local agencies to investigate them and try to catch the folks who are basically exploiting children," Johnston said.
Clarkesville Police Department assisted with Wednesday's search.
The investigation is continuing, Johnston said.
Anyone with information about this case or any child exploitation issues should contact their local law enforcement agency, or call the GBI Tip Line at (800) 597-8477.
